Celebrating Cucu Alice’s life
Some people give quietly, for years, without ever needing to be seen. Cucu Alice was one of them, and we loved her for it.
For years, she held Ubuntu Life close from thousands of miles away — showing up for us again and again, long before most of us on the ground ever got to meet her in person. And still, somehow, we knew her. We knew her the way you know someone who keeps choosing you, quietly, year after year. When we called her "Cucu" — grandmother — it was never just a title. It was how she loved us, and how we loved her back.
Cucu Alice passed away last year. Before she did, she asked us for one thing: that her ashes be spread at the Ubuntu Life Campus, among the children and the community she had poured so much love into. This July, we carried out that wish, with full hearts. We also planted a tree in her name — something alive, something that will keep growing alongside the children here, the way her love for this place never stopped growing either.
Her ashes are part of this campus now. So is her tree. Part of the ground the children play on, part of the shade they'll sit under one day, part of everything we build here from now on.
We may not have known Cucu Alice's face the way we know the families who walk through our gates every day. But we knew her heart — steady, generous, faithful to this place for years. And now, in the most real way we know how to say it, she's home here. She always will be.
With so much love, Cucu Alice. We'll carry you with us. Always.
